I am Velvet. I am a blogger from years ago. I started blogging back in 2013 and I loved it. At the time, I was looking for work, and I was a caregiver for my grandmother, whom at the time was suffering with Parkinson’s and Dementia. My Mom, whom is a nurse would work 12-hour shifts, and I would stay at home. It was a very difficult time in our household. Watching a once vibrant, active woman, quickly become sick and weaker with each passing day. She was my best friend and it was so hard to watch. I needed a mental escape and I had no idea what that was.

My Mom became a fan of the Pioneer Woman and Mom explained how she got started with blogging and she suggested that I should try it. And I told her that I didn’t think that I was interesting enough to do it and asked, “Who would want to read anything that I wrote?” Mom told me not to think that way and to try it. “You never know where it could lead.”, she said. So, I went to the Pioneer Woman’s blog and I started reading. I looked at the photos, the effortless way that she explained things, etc. Then, I looked to my right and I saw an ad for BlogHer. BlogHer, was a central world for bloggers. So many women share their work on this site. And it was a great way to read others’ work, learn and send in posts of your own. They even had conventions, to which I wished I could’ve attended. After seeing the ad, I clicked it. I went to WordPress, created a blog and I fell in love.

I started blogging and it was great to connect with bloggers that had years of experience in the field and understood what it took to be good at it. I was able to connect with writers, authors, and quickly learned that if I kept this up, there could be a future in it for me. I learned about content writers and that was something I became very interested in, I just wanted to learn it all. It was so exciting! Then, in January of 2014, my world came crashing down. We lost my grandmother. I was just…still. I didn’t know what I needed or wanted to do. I couldn’t really blog anymore after that. It was almost as though, when Granny left, my inspiration went with her. I couldn’t even think about, so I stopped. I gave up. I tried later to get back into it, but my Momentum was gone, I ran out of things to talk about and I didn’t blog anymore. Until today.

This is the first post that I have written in years. And so, I have decided to try it again. One more time, to see if I can do this. Starting over is nerve wracking. Especially considering the fact that blogs aren’t talked about as much anymore as they used to be. Now, it is about content creating. Which, I plan on trying as well. But, we will see how it goes. And I will keep you updated on things as they develop. But, this blog is going to be about my life. Home improvement, gardening, books, etc. All of my passions. I will be talking about them here. And I am inviting you to join me as I rebuild, learn and grow on this writing journey. I am jumping in, both feet, doing the research, the leg work and giving it my all. I look forward to getting to know you, sharing with you and getting back into the creative sphere.

I am not anyone famous. I am not vain. I am not over the top.

I am simply velvet. Nice to meet you!
